Well obviously the winter weather is upon us. Just a reminder that we follow the Audubon School District inclement weather schedule for school closings. If the district delays one hour, our am class will begin at 9:45 am and the PM class will be on the regular schedule. If the district does an early dismissal we will cancel our PM class. That being said if at any point you feel that is that the safest option is to keep your child home please feel free to do so. In the event that snow is expected during the day, you may decide at some time during the school day that you want to pick your child up. That is completely fine with me. Although I will try to have school available to your child everyday, his / her safety (and your safety and the safety of our teachers) is our priority. Remember to stay in contact and let me know if you will be keeping your child home. Email is the best mode of communication in this situation. I will send an email as soon as I am contacted about any school changes and will post on edmodo and our school website. This is a great time to be sure you have signed up for Edmodo text alerts, you will get any weather updates to your phone. Soooo get your shovels out and buy some new coloring books! It looks like it is going to be a LOOOOOONG winter. Have a great day and stay safe.
The children at Audubon Preschool will have a new “toy” to play with this year with the installation of a SMART Board, thanks to a grant provided by the Audubon Education Foundation.
A SMART Board is an interactive whiteboard that is like an oversized touchscreen computer. The children will be able to manipulate objects on the screen as well as be able to watch and listen to presentations and interact with them.
Our teachers are very eager to incorporate such an exciting learning tool in their curriculum. Linda Bier, Head Teacher, says ,”We are very excited about the addition of a SMART Board to our curriculum. We will use it each morning in daily activities – tracking the calendar and weather and in daily job assignments. As the year progresses, children will even use it to sign in to indicate that they are in school each day. Other uses can be to practice letter recognition, beginning writing skills, letter sounds and in the teaching of numbers and counting activities.” The best advantage of the SMART Board is it will give students a leg up in preparing them to enter elementary school. “ There are so many applications available that are geared for preschoolers and match up with our existing curriculum. This newly acquired technology will add a great deal to our preschoolers learning experience and will introduce them to a technology that they will see everyday in Kindergarten.”
Audubon Preschool has been educating children for over 40 years and continues to provide a valuable and rewarding early learning experience for children. We are a non-profit, state certified, and licensed preschool program, offered as a social service to the community by the Audubon Women’s League.
Created in 2008, the Audubon Education Foundation seeks to encourage academic excellence in the Audubon School District by providing funding not available through traditional local, state, or federal sources. For more information or to become involved in the organization, please visit audubonedfoundation.org.
The preschool staff and Audubon Women’s League Volunteers worked very hard over the summer to create an active playroom for our students. Here they have the space and materials to participate in lots of fun active learning and help develop gross motor skills. We are excited to have such a great new space for our students to learn and grow.
